Mini Haul

Guys I spent some money. I admit it. But I have justification I promise! After some amazing feedback from my boss at work I thought I deserved to treat myself to a few bits and bobs! There was a couple of things I knew I wanted and some others were just spontaneous buys.
So let me show you what I got!
Just a few bits as you can see but I'm really happy with them!

I first went into WHSmith in search of a little notepad that I could jot down blog post ideas in or write comments that have made me smile in to look back over.  I went for this Kiyomi floral A6 one as I loved the pattern but it's such a handy size to chuck in my bag and go. To go alongside this I bought two pens to jot these ideas down!

My next stop was SuperDrug. Now I've been wanting to try their Vitamin E Skincare range for so long now since it appears to be a dupe of the Body Shop range. Most of Superdrug's range is no more than £3 so you can't go wrong! I decided to go for the leave on Moisture Mask and the Eye Cream. I used both of these last night and ohhhh boy are these good! The mask is an odd one in the way that it says to wipe off any excess or to run it in after the 10 minutes. However because it is quite liquidy it sinked into my skin straight away! I don't know whether it was because of my skin being so desperate for some moisture or what, but that doesn't stop it from being an amazing product.

Onto the eye cream. I knew I was going to love this as soon as I put it on. The consistency is perfect.. Not too thick but not too gloopy. It absorbed into the skin so nicely and left my under eye feeling so soft.

My skin felt the best it's ever felt this morning and I honestly do believe it is because of these two products.

I may aswell continue with SuperDrug. I am one of those people who can't resist anything that is on offer by the till. Hence why I picked up a packet of Malteaser bunnies. Not much to say about that except that they have now all gone. Yep.

I then finished my little spree at boots. I mainly went because I wanted to try out a Seveenteen 'Cheek Stamp' blush. The concept of this intrigued me as the applicator is literally a stamp. You stamp into the product and then apply to the face. I loved the shade(Stare-Struck) but I did find the applicator it came with is too big for the surface area of my cheek so did have to use my normal blush brush to blend it out.

I also really wanted to try the new Rimmel Lasting Finish concealer- mainly because I want it to almost outline and highlight my brows. But I did use it under my eyes also this morning and I have to say, I really did like it for both.

I also picked up Barry M's Flawless Matte Finish foundation simply because there was a 3 for 2 offer on and I am a sucker for that and matte foundations. I won't say too much about this because I will be doing a review of some sort about this soon but I will say I like it so far!

The end result of my face today! I really am pleased with everything I bought!

Let me know if you have tried any of these products!

What's in my Purse?

The 'What's in my...' Videos and blogposts are some of my favourite things to watch/read. I like to say it's because I get an insight into the person's life but others may say it's because I'm nosey. I figured that lots of you don't actually know that much about me so I thought I would do the 'What's in my Purse' post today so you can get to know me slightly more.

I should probably start off with showing you all my purse. I used to have a gorgeous snake skin print Kurt Geiger purse... But clumsy old Hannah somehow managed to get an ink stain on it. So I went on a hunt to find an equally pretty purse and stumble across this little beauty from Topshop.
I believe it was £16 but with my student discount I got it for slightly less. This brings me on to the first thing to show you in my purse:
Although I dropped out of university in December, I still hold onto my student card so I can still get all the discounts! (Is this wrong?)
In the little section underneath this one I have my Holland and Barret points card for when I need to stock up on my vitamins etc.
I don't often shop in Holland and Barrett but I couldn't say no to a) a points card and b) this cute little squirrel!
In the section underneath this one I have my expired NUS card that I am hoarding for some reason?! I don't even know.
On the other side of the card section, I have all the exciting cards. I have a travel card that I top up with Euros whenever I go on holiday..I keep this in my purse so if don't lose it/to remind me of summer to boost my mood everyday!
As you can see, I have a Debenhams Beauty card peeping out there. This is quite similar to the Boots card as everytime you buy something, the points add up and can go towards your next purchase.

Underneath, I then have two gift cards that I received as presents. I have a Debenhams one and a River Island one. I still have all of the credit on the river island one but I only have about £2 left on the Debenhams card... BOOO.

Moving on to the bottom section of the card slots..
I have my Starbucks points card which is a lifesaver! Always there when I need a coffee lift.
I then have my trustee Nandos card which I am not ashamed to say that I use probably more than the average person. What can I say? I love a good chicken thigh. The best part is.. I have two free meals on the card... HALLELUJAH!

In the best slot, I have probably my two favourite cards.. My Boots and SuperDrug cards. These get A LOT of use. I'm sure I have about £25 worth of points on Boots card. Do you think that's a bit excessive?

Boots is my favourite out of the two I think. Anyone else? Or do you prefer SuperDrug? Let me know in the comments!

Moving on to my bank card. I have my trustee Santander card.. Which is constantly being whipped out and abusing my bank balance.
Now onto the final section.
I have my driving license which I have only just recently received after passing my test a few weeks back!
Let's all ignore the HORRENDOUS photo!

I then have my Body Shop Love Your Body card.
I couldn't live without this.. The Body Shop is seriously like heaven for me. My favourite product is the Raspberry Body Butter. If you haven't smelt this, where have you been?! You NEED to get yourself to a store and get your nostrils on this one seriously!

So that's all of my cards in my purse! Anyone else have a running theme of points cards in your purse? I just can't help myself!

Life in the 'Fast Play' lane!

Kylie Jenner's lips are the talk of the town at the moment, and everyone and their dog is trying to find that perfect 'Kylie shade'. You all probably know that MAC 'Whirl' and 'Spice' are the lipsticks that everyone is trying to get their hands on. Because of this new found popularity, they are pretty much sold out everywhere unfortunately for us!
But I may have the answer to all your prayers!
Whilst I was going through my collection, I came across 'Fast Play' which to me, is the perfect browny nude lipstick. A perfect alternative to Whirl and Spice in my eyes. The tone of the lipstick is definitely brown with a reddy undertone rather than a pink. I just love how it looks with my complexion.

I'd say it's almost a brick shade which isn't too 'brown' if you know what I mean. I find that some of these 'Kylie' shades can be too overwhelming and in your face brown. Fast Play is so underrated when really it's a lovely shade to have in your collection. It's so easy to just whack it on, put in your bag and Bob's your uncle.

It's staying your power is incredible too. Once applied I rarely need to reapply throughout the day. Perhaps this is due to it's Amplified finish, I don't know, but I'm definitely not complaining! The less effort the better.

So, if you're a pale skin gal like me, or simply looking for a Kylie Jenner lip, definitely give MAC's Fast Play a go. So underrated but definitely one of my favourite MAC lipsticks!

Banishing Acne for Good!

Now today's post is a one that's very close to my heart, I will sharing my 6 year long journey to getting rid of acne for good.
I have gone from an acne riddled face to an almost spot free face!

I know spots are a horrible thing to have and make you feel so down about yourself, but until you have suffered from severe acne, you don't know what a struggle with your self confidence is fully!

I thought I would share the background of my acne first of all. I first started to develop acne around about the age of 11. Now I found this to be one of the worst ages to suffer from acne at as most of the girls were starting to come into their own an flourish, whereas I was so desperately self conscious about my skin, I almost took a backseat. I HATED photos, and I constantly felt like the 'ugly' friend. A common partnership to acne is oily skin. And oh boy did I suffer from oily skin. I found that no foundation, no powder, no creams could mattify my skin at all, everything would simply slide off my face.

So after trying every single treatment the doctors could offer, from creams, to products that actually bleached and peeled layers of my skin off which meant I wasn't allowed to be in direct sunlight, to being put on the contraceptive pill at the age of 13, I was finally referred to a dermatologist after 5 years of waiting as nothing seemed to work. I was put on the highest dose of Roaccutane after the dermatologist branded my acne as 'the most severe' that she has seen over the years. Now, I may add that Roaccutane has some serious side effects that you need to be aware of before you start taking it; hence why very few people are put on it.. It is the last resort.
At the start of the treatment I had to sign a contract to say that I would not under any circumstances fall pregnant whilst on the tablet as it could cause harm to myself and the baby. This meant that every month I had to come to hospital to do a pregnancy test which was so distressing for me at the age of 16/17. That is only one of the side effects, others include dry lips, migraines, nausea etc, all the way to suicidal thoughts and mood swings. The latter two meant that the dermatologist would analyse my moods to ensure I was healthy at all times.

The following picture shows what my spots could look like even through makeup.. Huge boil like spots that left me with scars so deep into my skin:
Roaccutane helped my skin so much over the course of the 1 year treatment and it did genuinely leave my skin flawless. But as you can only be prescribed it from a dermatologist, your skin has to be severely problematic to be put on it.

Now I was aware that Roaccutane would work so much quicker if it was teamed up with some amazing skin care, so I went on the hunt to find the best products to help me. I'd already spent hundreds of pounds over the years trying to banish the acne so I already had a few products I loved. I thought I would share these with you, in order to help people with acne prone skin.

First of all we have Boots Botanics Mattifying Foam.
This product is seriously amazing at keeping that oil at bay all day but still making sure your skin has no nasties left in it. I use this every morning without fail.

Another face wash/mask is Neutrogena's  Visibly Clear 2 in 1. I would use this as a face mask once or twice a week and it leaves my skin feeling so soft and clean, I love it.

Manukau Doctor was recommended to me as a product that helps problematic skin so I obviously went out and bought it and I can say it did make a huge improvement to my skin- so worth the price tag.

Another important step in Skincare for acne prone skin is exfoliating. This helps get rid of all the old skin cells that could be hibernating bacteria. I chose Boots Botanics exfoliater as it has quite large beads in so you can feel it working away.
An alternative and slightly more expensive exfoliater that I often used is Clarin's One Step Gentle Exfoliater. This just left the skin feeling and looking flawless and got rid of any dead skin cells/bacteria left on my skin.

Although I have oily skin, I also have dehydrated skin as Roaccutane dries the skin out. To combat this I swear by Clarin's Hydraquench moisturiser which I use morning and night.

I was told to use a gentle makeup remover as anything too harsh or scented could only make my acne even worse. I opted for Clarins One Step Cleanser as it was nice and soothing but took every bit of makeup off in one go.

To further mattify my skin before makeup I would and still do use Boots Botanics Mattifying Gel. This stuff is INSANE. I would recommend to every single person ever.  Oil can't even escape through this defence mechanism.

Now, even a year or so after I finished the treatment; I still suffer from acne scars. And although I can easily use makeup to cover them up, I would still prefer to not have them.. Is that selfish, you tell me? To help rid these scars I use Witch Hazel as it is a healing aid. I just picked this huge bottle up from Boots and it has lasted me aaaages!

Another important part of Skincare regime for patients on Roaccutane is a good lip balm as the tablet dries the lips out to the point where it becomes painful. So I stuck to my trustee Carmex that I knew and loved to work. I couldn't go anywhere without this as my lips hurt so bad all the time.

Although the treatment wasn't at all pleasant, I am so glad I was put on it as it has cleared my skin up so well.
One thing I would say is that you shouldn't go to the doctor complaining about acne and expect to be prescribed Roaccutane immediately. This won't happen as the doctors have to trial and error every other treatment first as Roaccutane is so extreme. It took me 6 years to become acne free and I of course still gets spots from time to time, but nowhere as near as bad as 5-6 years ago.

Feel free to leave a comment sharing your acne journey, or even if you have simply used any of these products without suffering from acne!

Blast of the Past

As I work 5 days a week (including most Saturdays!) I like to cherish my days off and do things I wouldn't normally do.

So yesterday me and my boyfriend decided to go to the Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle. This museum just reminds me of my childhood so much, I used to love going here when I was younger. It's basically a museum that documents the past, from wild animals to the Egyptians; you name it.
Now this post could become quite controversial for the reason that the museum does hold some stuffed animals, which I know some people disagree with so I am sorry if this offends you in anyway.

There are two parts of the museum that I remember from my childhood. The first was a section laid out like Noah's Ark to show us what animals used to exist and where there habitat was, along with the animals that we all know and love today.

The second part has quite a funny memory attached to it. I remember a big glass case full of all different types of spiders (obviously they weren't alive thank god!). My grandpa absolutely hates spiders to the point where he wouldn't even go near this section of the museum! So me and my brother decided to buy a plastic spider from the gift shop and that night we put it on our grandpas pillow and eventually heard a very feminine scream come from him!

So I when I arrived yesterday for the first time in years, I was a bit disappointed that it had all changed! But it is still an amazing museum nontheless.

As you arrive, you walk into this huge hall dedicated to all the wild animals that grace our amazing world. Now some of these animals were stuffed, but I personally find it amazing that we can get the chance to see these animals.

I mean how amazing is that! Now as we worked our way around the museum we ended up on a balcony upstairs which meant we were directly opposite these wild animals which was so incredible!

So after the first room, we walked through to the section all about fossils and sea creatures. But the most amazing part of this room was the huge dinosaur skeleton. I couldn't quite get over how amazing it was to be stood so close to a real dinosaur skeleton.
Next to each artefact was a plaque of facts about the animal.. These were so interesting to read.

We then moved on to the exhibition all about Ancient Egypt. I was blown away by this part as right infront of me was an actual Mummy. It's hard to think that mummifying was a real procedure years and years ago and reading all about it yesterday was insane.

The next section was probably my favourite. It was entitled 'Natural Northumbria' which made me love it even more as it was all about things that can be found or was once found in my home area. There was a super cute model of a little lamb that I actually 'aww'd out loud at.. But when you see it you probably will too!
Look at it!
There was also a gorgeous model of a swan, it was so beautifully presented and matched the elegance of the swan to the point.
Also in this section there was some gorgeous, gorgeous butterflies. Just looking at them made me realise how incredible this earth is.

There was obviously loads of other sections in the museum but these ones were my favourite by far. And if I included them all this post would be so long so I just hand picked my favourite out of the lot.

I seriously love this museum and would recommend to anyone visiting/living in Newcastle!

Let me know if you've ever been and what your favourite parts out of the ones I mentioned are!

Battle of the Mascaras

So girls, please help me out and here and prove that it isn't just me that searches high and low for the ultimate mascara. I'm talking, THE mascara of all Mascaras, THE one that adds the volume, the length, the ability to flutter your lashes to get your own way.. THAT mascara.

So I used to swear by Maybelline 'The Colossal' mascara, then I tried out Rimmel's 'Wonder'Full' mascara and fell in love with that. But then Benefit came along and tempted me with their new 'Rollerlash' and to no-ones surprise, I fell in love with that. However, just after I started to use it every single day, I heard the rumours that Maybelline had an exact dupe for a fraction of the price; which pleased me greatly. So I thought I would take the chance to do a comparison between the two, to see if they are exactly the same.

So I'll start with Benefit's 'Rollerlash'. This comes in at a hefty £19.50 which to me, is ludicrous for a mascara but hey ho a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do (for amazing lashes). I however picked up the mini tube just to see if I actually liked it before splurging on the full size.

How could I not resist this super cute little thing. I love the packaging, and to me that's always a selling point to me. If it has nice packaging, I want it, and will buy it.

Anyway on to the actual point of this post: the quality.
First of all I have to say that I love the brush of this mascara. It's a plastic applicator which I find really helps to coat all the lashes and add a curl to them.
As you can see, the brush itself is curved which again helps to catch all the lashes and add that extra oomf. If there's one thing I look for in a mascara it's how they manage to curl and keep the curl as my natural lashes are quite straight. And Rollerlash did this for me!

I do have to join the hype and say I was so impressed with this mascara that when it runs dry, I will most likely splurge on the full size.

Now onto the drugstore dupe.. Maybelline's 'Lash Sensational' mascara. This RRP's at £7.99 but as it was a new product I snapped it up at £5.99, what a bargain!
Now as I mentioned about Rollerlash having super pretty packaging, this Maybelline product is so aesthetically pleasing I couldn't quite believe it. The metallic pink is so cute, I couldn't not take it home with me.
I mean look at it. Just take a minute to admire that beauty.
Now in terms of whether it is a dupe for Rollerlash, I would have to agree and say there is a LOT of similarities. Lash Sensational also has a curved plastic brush, which again, grips onto every individual lash and holds the curl all day.
If anything I prefer this brush as I did find it easier to ensure that I was getting an even application to each of my lashes But when you hold the two together it is hard to notice any differences.
The only thing is that Maybelline Lash Sensational is slightly thicker than Rollerlash.

One thing I did notice with Maybelline is that the mascara was a lot more of a noticeable black which I LOVED. I always go for Mascaras that claim to be 'blacker than black' as I think it adds something to my eyes.

I loved how it opened my eyes and drew attention to them with even just one coat.

Overall I would say the two are quite similar but I do edge towards the Maybelline Lash Sensational slightly more, simply because I think it creates thicker and blacker lashes than Rollerlash does. Saying that though, I rotate between the two on a daily basis as I love them both!

But if you're on a budget/craving payday, then I would definitely recommend go check out Maybelline's counter until you can afford to splurge on Benefit!

Lots of love,
Hannah xxx
